SleepLog in ChatGPT: privacy
Last updated 22 October 2026.
The SleepLog app inside ChatGPT is separate from the SleepLog iPhone app. The iPhone app keeps your nights on your phone. The ChatGPT app keeps a diary on SleepLog's server, because ChatGPT itself doesn't keep a reliable record from one chat to the next. The two don't sync. This page covers the ChatGPT app only. It is run by GymStreak Labs.
What we keep
Only what you tell SleepLog in ChatGPT, and only after you tap Start my diary on the start card. Before that, we don’t save diary entries.
- Your nights: the date, when you went to bed and got up, your time zone, how many times you woke, minutes awake if you say, how you felt in the morning and a short note.
- Your dreams: the dream in your words and the short tags ChatGPT picks out (themes, people, places, feelings).
- Your day: things you mention about the day before, such as late coffee, drinks, late screens, exercise, stress or a nap, and whether you finished your sleep ritual.
- Your sleep ritual: the steps, breathing pattern, sounds and timer you choose. The "park tomorrow" list you write in the chat is not saved by SleepLog.
- That you agreed: the time you started your diary.
Dreams and notes can be personal. Only add what you're comfortable keeping, and avoid other people's private details.
Your ChatGPT account, no sign-in
We don't ask for your name, email or phone number, and there's no SleepLog sign-in. With each SleepLog action, ChatGPT sends us a coded id for your ChatGPT account. We store only a one-way scrambled version of it, so your diary is linked using a coded identifier, without a separate SleepLog sign-in and can be found again in your next chat. If ChatGPT doesn't send that id, SleepLog reads and saves nothing. If ChatGPT ever gives SleepLog a different coded id for you (for example on another ChatGPT account), SleepLog can't link the two, because we never learn who you are. Export your diary any time to keep your own copy.
We don't receive your ChatGPT chats, only the details needed for each SleepLog action. Playing sleep sounds stores nothing.
Why we keep it
To show you your diary, your patterns, your dream themes and how your nights compare, in any ChatGPT chat. We work these out ourselves with simple arithmetic; we don't send your diary to any AI service. Comparisons show what went with your nights in your own diary, not what caused them.
Who sees it
You, through ChatGPT. We don't sell or share your diary, don't use it for advertising, and don't use it to train AI models. We use these kinds of service providers, under contract and only to run SleepLog:
- Cloud hosting and database: runs SleepLog's server and stores your diary, encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Content delivery network: delivers SleepLog's pages, pictures and sleep sounds and protects the service from abuse.
What you type in ChatGPT is also handled by ChatGPT under its own privacy policy. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it. There is no automatic expiry.
- Deleting: when you delete a night or everything, it is removed from SleepLog's live database straight away.
- Backups: our database provider keeps an automatic recovery history so the service can be restored after a fault. Deleted data may remain in that history for up to 30 days. Recovery history is used only to restore the service after a fault, not for everyday access to your diary.
- Logs: our server keeps short technical logs (such as which action ran, when, errors and the network address) for up to 7 days to keep the service working and secure. They don't contain your diary.
- Download links: an export link works for 15 minutes and contains only your diary. Anyone you give the link to can download it while it is valid.
Your controls
In any ChatGPT chat, just ask:
- See your diary, dreams and comparisons.
- Change a night or a dream ("change Tuesday's bedtime to 23:15").
- Export everything as CSV or JSON ("export my sleep diary").
- Delete one night ("delete last night") or everything ("delete my SleepLog diary"). Deleting everything erases every night, dream, ritual and the record that you agreed.
You can also email us to ask about or delete your data.
Not medical advice
SleepLog is a diary, not medical advice. If you're worried about your sleep, talk to a doctor.
